Every year The Institute for Civic Leadership (www.iclny.org) sends a team of students and teachers to India as part of the ICL's Poverty Alleviation Initiative. This year, we built a new classroom for the Lamdon School in the village of Sumoor (altitude 10,500 ft), in the Nubra Valley of the Ladakh region, which is very close to Tibet, culturally and geographically. At present, the school goes only to grade 4 and has 130 students. Our project will make it possible for more than 170 students from the surrounding area to expand their academic goals and complete primary education at the Lamdon School.
