My brand new Sherline 4400 CNC mini lathe arrived today, and this is it - my first lathing. I even made my first beginner mistake on video - it's the part where I crank the cutting holder straight into the jaws of the 3-jaw chuck, jamming up the spindle and motor! No lathe components were harmed in the making of this video, but it was a close call.

Now I know I had the cutter holder backwards. It's obvious now - the tool should be on the left side of the holding block, to keep the block out of the way of the chuck jaws.

  • I KNOW, I KNOW! :(

    :)

  • DOH! dont feel bad, the first time i ran a lathe was last year and i tried to cut my W/P with the lathe rotating in the wrong direction

  • I'm just trying to get all the mistakes out of me now, while it's not important.
