PaPeRo Communication Robot : DigInfo

The NEC Group held the "C&C User Forum & iEXPO 2008" for three days from November 11th at the Tokyo International Forum (Yurakucho). The theme of the forum was "Creating a human-centric, earth-friendly information society."
NEC exhibited the PaPeRo robot that built to live as a partner with people.
PaPeRo can remember and identify peoples faces using image recognition, speech recognition and voice synthesis technology for interaction with language. It is also equipped with 8 microphones and uses noise cancelling technology to improve and stabilize speech recognition.
The robot is expected to be used at nursing homes and be used as an assist robot in helping prevent dementia by encouraging conversation with the elderly.
Equipped with its easy to understand interface, it may not be long before we see PaPeRo standing on a street corner.

@plateofribs I think so, robots like this (but with fully functional hands capable of open doors, prepare sandwich and legs capable of climbing stairs) with a height of 150cms type robotina will do the same as slaves in past centuries. We will not need to memorize, to learn, to practice how to do something because is easier for us to order the robot to do that for us. I don't know if that is so bad that robots will be more and more smart and we gonna be more fool and dependant.
