NZ5648 is the only Ex-RNZAF Corsair still flying. Here it returns to New Zealand and flies at Hobsonville. 2004-02-10

  • That reporter got it wrong, it's actually a Goodyear FG1, not a Chance Vought F4U 1.

  • Hi, I know what you mean but I guess they can be let off on a technicality because I've seen them referred to in that way before, albeit with more specifics e.g. 'Chance-Vought FG-1D'. Chance-Vought by design, Goodyear by manufacture. And the F3A by Brewster of course. They would definitely have been wrong if they'd said it was an F4U; but they didn't. What they said wasn't necessarily incorrect, just not as specific as it could have been for the discerning. :-) Thanks.
