Tom Allsopp of http://tpatennis.net/ demonstrates how to improve your transition and net game.

There are numerous drills and warm-ups you can do to improve your forecourt game and help you to develop a better transition game. The first warm-up exercise I demonstrate helps you to feel comfortable taking the ball early and hitting shots from inside the baseline - a place you will need to hit shots from if you want to get to the net and put pressure on your opponent.

The second exercise I demonstrate is vital to becoming a great net player. Most players, especially club players, practice stood too close to the net. By standing close to the net you only get to hit high volleys, making it unrealistic to the kind of volleys you actually hit in a match. Try practicing behind or around the service line. This gives you an opportunity to practice low volleys and half volleys, extremely important shots to work on if you are to be successful at transitioning from the baseline to the net.

  • @How2kidsversion The key to the volley is the transition and hands, so by extension, improving your half-volleys from both the baseline and service-line as well as your deep first volleys is something that will improve your volleys, both in ease and how your hands handle them.

  • WTF? not even a quarter of those were volleys.

  • Really smooth, relaxed.

That's what I'm working on. It's a shame I'm italian, I would like to train with you.

    Good videos, good teacher.

  • Love the shoes, I got the same pair.

  • Also, do you have any tips for a 2 handed backhand, I've cut short tennis a bit and I lost my form. Do you have any tips or mental tricks to it?

  • Great strokes and volleys Tommy.
