Don't be alarmed, this is still Kush with Ask the Adobe ones. Today I'm here going through the one of the Adobe junk yards trying to salvage anything usable with all the cut backs and all you know. Oh look what I found just what I need. It's an economic stimulus package. what the? wait, oh no wander its not an economic stimulus package, its an economical package stimulus.
Well, I don't mean to be a Grinch to dampen the festivities but the truth is there are quite a bit of people out there who aren't exactly having a festive holiday season this time around. And yes, not even some of the Adobe ones are immune to this grim economic climate. So lets toast to all those who are trying to keep up the fight and trying to ride the storm out. Cheers! ahh.. what the heck is in this cup don't worry its just water i'm just acting. But seriously, Adobe is actually one of the top ranking companies when it comes to giving to charity so I thought I'd do my little part and make somebody's wish come true. See, I got this email from L.M.M. asking about a CS3 poster he saw on one of the other shows and found it impossible to get one for himself because its not sold anywhere. Well guess what, look what I found, now that CS4 is out they replaced the old CS3 posters that used to be on the walls of our offices and I found some of those so I'll send one over to you L.M.M. for free and as for the rest of the posters, look its a complete set of 4 I'll put them on ebay or something and give the proceeds to a charity. Well, if that pushes through, you should be able to find the link to that auction on the pdf file in the related files button. Which reminds me, I don't know if you noticed but there's this little button under the player in the adobe tv web site that lets you download files related to the video and in the case of Ask the adobe ones, I started putting out pdf files with web links to the topics discussed in the video so check it out on the Adobe TV web site.
Ok, next I also got an e-mail from Evan asking about the time span it takes to come up with an Adobe product. Well, that's a pretty hard one to answer because Adobe has so many products and they've had different time lines of their own. But luckily I found this Adobe time line in this pile of junk and even I was surprised what a long history some of these products have. For example Postscript came out in 1983 so if you take that into account the latest version of post script had about 25 years of work behind it. And if you look at the history of CS release dates, you can notice that there is no regular time period and you also have to take into account the fact some of the products and technologies came from M&As that's mergers and acquisitions (not murders and assassinations) so you have to count the amount of time the former company put into developing these products. Yet, there are some products that went from concept to market much faster, so there really isn't a regular time frame for a product to come around from scratch. You can also get an idea how long things take from early versions to get to market by observing what's going on in Adobe labs. For example the project which used to be code named Thermo just got designated as Flash Catalyst. No Thermo is not a brand of thermal underwear but its a tool that lets designers make working Flex applications without actually coding anything and hand over to programmers to further develop it. I actually got a question from Bobby asking if we can get the makers of Thermo or now Flash Catalyst to talk about this product and your wish is granted too. I just saw a new Edge newsletter video of Julie talking to those guys so check it out on the Edge videos channel on Adobe TV or directly on the edge news letter home page.
Alright, I don't want to drag this any further, so happy holidays to all of you around the world which ever the holiday you are celebrating or even if you are not celebrating anything. Do keep those questions coming in, send them all to ask@adobe.com and I'll try to find the answers to what you wish to know from the Adobe ones and it doesn't matter if you've been naughty or nice! And no, you don't really have to sit on my lap.
I wonder if this is economical because it's used. eew.
