There are over a billion christians. Say for each day, there's a new case of maltreatment. That means 1 per million people do this over the course of 3 years. A child is more likely to drown in the bathtub than get that sort of treatment.

Now, a point on which you are completely wrong is that religion is the ONLY thing that causes this treatment. The only way you'd get to that conclusion is that that the religous instances are the stories that you and/or your newspaper pay attention to.

When you ask someone to rationalize/support what they did, if they have murdered, raped or killed... if they are not religious they will tell you they did wrong.

Religion allows someone to commit atrocities and feel good about it.

Yes, totally. When Sinead O'Connor tore the picture of the pope and scream "fight the real enemy", people were outraged (which when I heard about it the next day, I thought "wow, she has balls"). Only 8+ years later, we get these reports of catholic priests sexaul molesting young parishiner...and they still call her the devil for what SHE did. I'm not saying that there's a magic man up in the sky that created life. But I am also pointing out the folly of a really stupid belief system which suggests that life arises from chemicals. People continue to hunker down that path as "most likely" for comfort sake! And no my toenails do not grow 'cos of random molecules. The hypothesis of life arriving from chemicals, which everything is made of, has not been stated as a fact by ANY scientist. But, it is FAR more likely than it coming from a magic man in the sky!
