Not a good start to a day of autocrossing - running into a fence on the first run at Gulfcoast Autocrossers in Buckingham, near Fort Myers. Got some scratches - at least the rest of the day was better!

  • hahaha i find it hilarious when people drive fwd cars on a autocross event. didnt anyone teach them fwd cars are terrible on cornering. i shouldnt say terrible but are consideralby worse compared to rwd cars.

  • @switchblade1291 Not sure where you get that idea - RWD has better balance than FWD but a list of the top 10 best handling cars will usually include some FWD.

  • @FloridaMINI Can you show me that list?

  • @MrArtAuction Do a Google search but here is a start for references to good handling FWD... Car & Driver's best handling cars under $100k includes VW GTI at #7, Motor Trend had the MINI Cooper S 8th in their best handling list. The best are AWD or RWD but there are many outstanding FWD

  • @FloridaMINI Looks like they did a decent job on the GTI, but the testers still rated the mini and GTI last correct? Unless I couldn't find the rest of the list. Anyways to each their own. Are you going to be racing autocross this season starting in January? I'm from the area and am thinking about getting into it.

  • @MrArtAuction Yes I will and I highly recommend autocross to get to know what you can get your car to do. Hope to see you at Gulfcoast Autocrossers!

  • @switchblade1291 I bet my money that you have never been in an autocross or track event.

  • @switchblade1291

Wow, that is just one of the most ignorant thing you can say about cars. FWD in a class of cars under 240WHP is actually just as fast, if not faster than RWD because it's easier to drive fast. You obviously don't know much about cars and their ability so the next time you come up to a 1989 Civic hatchback running in ST class...I'm putting my money down that the hatchback is gonna kill whatever time you can try to manage on a autoX course.

  • @switchblade1291 Obviously, somebody who's never autocrossed. Enter one someday, then let us know how many FWDs kick your butt.

  • @switchblade1291 Weight and suspension affects handleing more than drivetrain setup. Oversteer can be just as bad as understeer if you know what I mean even though you probably don't

  • @switchblade1291 did you just say the mini cooper can't corner? So by your logic a dodge challenger should out corner a mini cooper........ Every car is different for cornering all Fwd and RWD effect handling is the amount of over or under steering. The mini Cooper is known for being amazing in the corners.

Oh and in case you didn't get the point of be brings up the challenger, it is known for poor handling, it is also RWd. Very good i like it, but it can't turn.

  • @switchblade1291 Mini cooper won SCCA National Tour - Western States Championship
