Jagrup Brar MLA Running Out of Money - Goes Binning

Coast Salish Territory, Surrey BC, January 28, 2012 - Jagrup Brar MLA (Surrey Fleetwood) continued his poverty journey on the MLA Welfare Challenge. He joined two binners to collect bottles and cans in the Downtown Eastside. They showed their find at a media briefing in the alley at Clark and between Venables and Adanac.

Find out what happens when they turn their bottles in for money. Only very poor and often desperate people will go binning yet the government says they have to declare the money they earn. It is clawed back from their next welfare payment. There is irony in that be legal, they would bin for nothing.

The challenge to live on $610 a month was issued by Raise the Rates to all MLA's in BC.
