Assignment: Earth was my favorite spy show of the 60's. Assignment: Earth starred Robert Lansing as super spy Gary Seven along with his mysterious black cat and a young Terri Garr helped save the Earth every week. I always loved the theme song. Here's the opening credits with the original theme.

I THOUGHT THIS "Assignment Earth" WAS ONE OF THE EPISODES OF "STAR TREK". WAS THIS A INDIVIDUAL STORY FROM STAR TREK?

    宇宙大作戦「 宇宙からの使者 Mr.セブン」って、別のドラマとのコラボだったってこと?

i love how Gary 7 is Roddenberry's idea of an American version of The Doctor

I know that's what people keep telling me. I rather think of Gary Seven as an extraterrestrial James Bond;capping off the era of '60's shows that borrowed the Bond concept. You may be right but I also prefer thinking of it as a character with some coincidental characteristics. I've heard some sources say they think his servo came before Dr. Who's special screwdriver. So, who knows?

I saw Terri Garr in Santa Monica a few years ago (American Cinematheque was honoring her by showing YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN). They asked for questions from the audience, and I was in the center of the front row. I asked her a question about ASSIGNMENT EARTH, and she lashed out at me with "OH NO, WE HAVE A TREKKIE IN THE AUDIENCE!". VERY embarrassing. But, after the show was over, I hung around with a few others and asked her if she was still married to David Letterman. She laughed.

Cool you got to see her. Yeah, I've never understood her reluctance to speak about and the venom she has for that episode. If it makes people happy and it's not too horrible a thing to have gone through seems like she could make more of an effort and just go with it. I mean, we all know she's done other stuff. We get it Terri. We know your career. I think that's a fault on her part. Have you checked out our site to see what I think of all that? It also explains our project more.

It was supposed to be a 'new' series. Unfortunately NBC didn't pick up the option. Pity, NBC & MGM were the most powerful people in media to make such blunders of missed opportunities. Would have been cool to see 'Assignment Earth' on the NBC Sunday Night Mysteries; with "McCloud". 'MacMillian & Wife' & 'Columbo'... but the Nielsons rating didn't like the audience response.

Hmm, ok. Guess you must live in an alternate time line because it was my favorite spy/scif fi/James Bond in outerspace/action show,...whatever you want to call it,...when I was growing up. Cool theme song too. Check out our site. It even says so.

Probably true. I have been personally aware of outsider intelligences operating on Earth for decades. So, as far as I am concerned, there is a realistic possibility that said intelligences could have taken action to prevent a nuclear war from starting. US personnel have also submitted reports, concerning UFOs disrupting missile sites in the US.

There was...the Cuban Missile Crisis was averted by an alien operative who used an 'advanced' scrabbling device that knocked out the guidance systems and launch firing codes for arming the warheads of all the missile in the Union of Soviets Socialist Republic...that's why they backed down.... it took 18 months to retrofit the Russian Arsenals. The US systems used 'mechanical' primers for it warheads;couldn't be remotely hacked. The file report for this incident is still in Russian.

They did re-launch 'Assignment Earth'.... it was overhauled in a way that could be described as a cross between 'V' and "Alienation'. Gregory Cox did a book series titled 'The Rise & Fall of Khan Soonyah Noon'. Putting Gary Seven & Miss Lincoln in the path of Khan... it take place between the time of Assignment Earth all the way to Space Seed. I cried at the ending.

"Agent Gary SEVEN" as in 007. Therefore, the character was more analogous to the espionage shows which were so popular in those days.

They should have used this episode as a spin off series
