My brother Dan had asked if I would perform with his band at Kensington Community Church, which he attends. I had no idea the caliber of musicians with whom I would be playing, and I truly felt honored to share the stage with them to pull off such a complex song.

This was the prelude for the "Old School" service at Kensington Community Church Rochester Hills, Michigan on 2/22/09.

Dan McCarthy - Piano
Jim McCarthy - Drums
G Reed Smyth - Hammond B3, Keyboards
Eric Jones - Guitar
Bob Schubert - Guitar

  • The only thing missing is the singing... just my opinion and in no way meant to be insulting, because you guys rocked it!! That is one of the most difficult Billy Joel pieces to play mainly due to the piano/percussion. But you all... and in that I mean ALL OF YOU made it blend wonderfully LOVED IT!!!

  • you guys ROCK!!!! sounds exactly like the song! EXACTLY

  • awesome dan! and i got to see you do it again in Lake Orion today.. amazing

  • kensington rocks!!

  • Great job to all!! Dan you still amaze me...

  • Mr. McCarthy,

I was thinking of doing this song with my band for the school talent show next year. The only problem is I dont know the notes on the second time it goes to that bridge in the section with the lyrics (when you used the keyboard ontop of the piano) if you could tell me, I would greatly appreciate it. They don't have to be in the right order, ill figure that out myself.

    Thanks,

    Nick

  • And that's how you play a PRELUDE in church. Dude that was awesome, I haven't had that much fun in a long time!!! Keep in touch Jim. WE ROCKED

  • This series "Old School" has been an awesome one and the music from the good ole' days representing the series...well...so outstanding. The bands, performers, actors and singers were wonderful.
