Shift lever woes on the new bike. Everything else is pretty much sorted by now. We've tried adjustments on the shift shaft and the peg. (The peg and heel/toe shifter is all one piece). Any ideas?

It's a semi-auto clutch. No clutch lever. Has a nice bite to shifting and shifts well and smooth. Nothing seems wrong or out of the ordinary, except for how much slack/play there is in the lever/mechanism. There's sufficient slack to render it almost unusable and unsafe, and definitely inconvenient. Any genius ideas out there? Help me out, Oh Great Interwebz!

  • Wow that is a bs shift set. As to the play sorry I can't help.

  • @azwakko LOL! This convoluted heel/toe BS is apparently common on these little pit/monkey bikes. I saw an old Snap-On trail bike in our back warehouse at work and went over to glance at (an engine very much a clone to this one). Sure enough-- footpeg/shifter was the same! Crappy design, IMO.

Yes, bs... As one guy on 49ccscoot forum said: "bull shift." LOL

  • Can't really say anything that makes sense about it but i wish you good luck on the issue :-)

  • @bakker46 Thanks! Considering this is the first real "issue" I've had with this *very* neglected scooter, I'm quite happy so far.

  • hey laurie did u get the super moto fixed yet

  • @kd4ysi Not 100%. Dialing in the carb this next week. As for the erratic/sometimes not erratic idle? For one, the pilot is too lean. For another, the choke likes to slowly vibrate out sometimes so that it's partially choked. Then, of course, it idles like crap once warm. Now that I know this, I reach down and check the choke lever and give it a gentle push. Problem solved! lol

  • @dalotel Well, hmph. You're making your own sandwich, then, mister. It's OVER with us!

  • Try Marc Salvisburg at Factory Pro They regrind shifting components for smoother action, and make custom upgraded components also.... They have been great with my bikes...

  • Sounds like the shifters are warn or bent. Either way your going to have to go into the gear box and look and most likely replace a part or two.

  • Oops, accidently deleted my commend. So here goes again....

Lighting Laurie, Lighting. Anyways, nothing constructive to say aside from that... Good Luck, can't wait to see your next vid.

  • is my vision that bad being a old fart or did your bike get smaller?

  • @bobbleboydk You know, I didn't think to even check, but that is perfectly brilliant. It's in dodgerider26's garage at the moment, so that test will have to wait a few days.
