This new, unused gel came with the Portal 2 update for the Peer Review DLC. The textures and particles are missing, but it still does function in certain aspects. This new gel replaced gel 1, or adhesion gel. But it still retains all the propulsion gel slide stoppage properties of the old adhesion gel. Here's the original adhesion gel video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-A1s67wK2Q

But as for its new effects, the gel can now reflect lasers like a mirror. Chances are, this was initially planned to be used in the DLC. Valve probably then decided that merely reflecting lasers wasn't versatile enough in comparison to the other existing gels, not to mention that it was too similar to what laser redirection cubes do.

At any rate, if you want to mess around with this gel for yourself, just put an info_paint_sprayer in a map with the gel type set to "stick." If you don't know how to use Hammer or you just don't feel like using it, then the map in this video is available for download below. Just put it in your Portal 2 maps folder and then play it by entering "map stick gel" in the developer console. If you need help with that, post a comment. Map download:

  • I think maybe Megaupload's not working... lol

  • @BitMage Yes, Megaupload was recently taken down by US law enforcement. Eventually I will upload the VMF of the map to some other file sharing site, assuming I still have said VMF on my computer.

  • @BitMage If you still want to try out the map, I finally got around to uploading the map to Mediafire. The download link is in the description.

  • It wasn't added because there is already a white gel in which can be used to place portals on anti-portal surfaces.

  • @Charged011 Colors wouldn't hold Valve back from implementing new gameplay elements. Rather than including a texture with the incomplete gel, conversion gel's white texture was used as a placeholder. Had it actually been implemented, the gel probably would have been green or red.

  • The worst thing in the world, coat the entire enclosed room in this gel, and the laser endlessly reflects

  • @TruthNeedBeTold That would be very lagtastic.

  • Yuck, so that's why there's cum in, what is supposed to be, a 12+ PEGI-rated game. I prefered the purple gel, and infact, I wouldn't mind replacing the white gel with the purple one even it means missing textures, and also, I'm sure that cum doesn't replace the purple gel, it just adds to it! • it was the portal 2 secret made by valve for testing properties and made for modding custom maps, as you can see its usefull....

  • SCIENCE! :D

  • I had an idea for this gel a while ago so I'm really happy that Valve might use it. It could be really cool for some puzzles. Someone check to see if lasers reflect off cubes coated in the gel. And it might be cool if the new reflection property made it reflect emancipation grills, so you could bring it through those... I hope this is in the next DLC :O
