I live near manchester airport too. I only just moved in,and I have met a couple of pilots there already and asked them the same question. They said it is fairly possible. If they cant offer you a job at the moment but they want to keep you for the future, they will make you throw some bags into the plane. I want to be a pilot, it is a beautiful and professional job that requires a lot of passion, but with the risk, annoying passengers, early mornings, low pay for such a job...bleh
When a teenager back in the days before all of the security, we used to sit at the end of this runway and watch the planes land right over our heads.
Then they were props, Connies, Viscounts, DC4s etc. Later Boeing 707s!
During the Cuban missle crisis, B-47s on the ramp ready to go.
Dad took me to see the last air show at KPHL. Chuck Yeager, refueling flybys, an aircraft carrier docked on the river so we could watch launches and recoveries. Blues and Tbirds. Awesome!
