A severe blaze on the 4th of July destroyed Main Street Vineyard Haven's Cafe Moxie, then devastated the adjoining Bunch of Grapes bookstore before being extinguished by a joint effort of volunteer fire corps from all three major island towns. The thirty-year old bookstore has been a gathering spot for literary luminaries for decades. The late William Styron called the Bunch of Grapes "the best bookstore in America." Luckily no one was hurt.
(former) Vineyarder in absentia here...friends and colleagues would visit me at BofG, and it does my heart good that the store is back. It is more than that, it has been a gathering place of some great literary minds and others of the famous and even infamous. One of the island's many treasures.

Still rebuilding of the new moxie is delayed after many years thanks to the short-sighted architect PA and the owners, and, the impatient and hurried, and perhaps bribed some of governing town heads like JK.The building is bought over to someone else and still nothing is done remaining as an eyesore on main street.
