three flower pots - trying to bake a clay object -

(initial inspiration : MrBillToop73's experiments with his "Binchotan stoves". See his videos for explanations about the automatic pre-heating of the incoming air between 2 walls of the stove)

Guidelines for further experiment :
- increase the internal temperature : increase air intake, improve insulation, prevent cracking of the stove walls, ...
- but stay close to prehistoric technology level.

  • You ruined 2 huge clay objects to make one small clay object.

  • @2bornot2b1984

    you're right !

    and more : the third clay object was not even really well baked

    (beginner's experiments ...)

  • The point being?

  • @josephdupont

    Initially I saw the experiments performed by MrBillToop73 with his "Binchotan stoves". This was new to me. I thought it might be possible to build a very simple stove that produce enough heat to bake (very) small clay objects. Actually : heat is not really sufficient and, at least, the intake of air should be increased. I'll do this experiment some day.

  • Whoa! Wait a sec! How did you start that fire?! Do a video of that, too! That looks really interesting!

  • @ZachreyCA

    thanks,

    That was a fire by friction ; you can have better glimpses of that in my videos "Friction fire - ..." ; for instance in "Friction fire - bow drill kit - ...", and "Friction fire - close up on ember" ;

  • I found out about how underground Tandoori ovens are seasoned first to prevent cracking. Check out Akira Yoshida for advice, I think he's been firing pots for years with a bbq grill

  • @TheBgcheez

    thank you for this suggestion; it would be interesting to verify ; my next try will be to use "prehistoric technology" ;

  • I wonder if the pots would have retained their integrity and not cracked if you had sprayed them with 1200 Degree Spray on paint

  • Great work.

    I think you need more air flow to raise the temperature high enough to bake the clay object.

    Bill
