I shot this 16mm film as a sophomore at Brigham Young University. Starred Aaron Eckhart in, what is surely his first role EVER on film. I had a great time working with Aaron Eckhart. He was willing to try anything. He called my directing style "the Lon chaney School of acting." Very funny, really. Aaron actually came up with the idea of clubbing the "hanging man" and prodding him with a stick. Nice stuff. Also starring my sister Alisha Mellen. THE BASIC CONVOLUTED PLOT: I asked myself: "What if, after the official resurrection, a guy still wished he was dead. If he committed suicide in LIFE, wouldn't he hand himself again in death... for eternity?

  • That is perhaps the darkest thing I've ever seen come from BYU... Cool... (I mean, I'm a USU person myself, but it's nice to know that not all BYU people have the exact same personalities.) Sorry, that wasn't nice of me. Oh well... at least I don't have a curfew. Sorry again... geez... I'm about to be a sophomore myself, so this whole college rivalry thing is still sort of exciting. ANYWAY, good work! :)

  • @SarahRubyK Thanks for the feedback. I guess I am not the usual "Mormon", though I am very active in my church. I grew up in Topeka, KS with more mental instututions per capita than anywhere else in the world. My dad worked with serious mental illness at the V.A. hospital. I went to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for my MFA in film direction after BYU. I've seen A LOT OF FILMS and have studied a lot of Contemporary art. I'm glad to be different and still glad to be LDS.

  • @mellenheadprods I admire that a lot! I'm just beginning to figure out who I am, but I know that I'm not a typical mormon either. But I'm still proud to be LDS as well. :) Why change yourself to fit a mold when you can be one of a kind? Granted, it's going to take me a lot longer to get married than the other mormon girls, but I think I can definitely deal with that. :)

  • This is why filmmakers are insane. They hide behind the lie that they are doing something experimental with art. Rationalizing their desire to produce something which comes from a darker source. This flick is 100% liquid shit.

  • real badass
