This short video describes a shot I have been developing. During fights with Steve, he asked me to show him the shot. The discussion was caught on video so I've decided to upload it here.

Due to my sword forward, right leg forward style, I've developed a shot that gives me options based on the opponents response.

How: I rotate my right hip forward as if I am dropping my sword hand down into the opponents offside leg. If the opponent reponds to the leg shot and it is going to be blocked, I stop my right hip momentum, and transfer to the left hip, I drag my elbow across my body, and extend my arm as the hip pushes it out. On a right handed fighter I will delay until my tip has passed their guard (if they are in high guard) and thus comes the cross into the face. On a left handed fighter I will find the angle their sword is at (if they are in high guard) and throw the shot parallel to their sword angle.

Why: A lot of fighters will overblock the offside leg with their shield, which will force them to rely on their sword for blocking. A sword is much easier to manipulate angles on. By being aware of the angles, openings, and options, you can pick and choose where this shot will go depending on the opponents response.

Any questions or comments please leave a comment below. The fight in reference (where I use the shot multiple times) is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCFObbw9v5c (9 seconds in you can see the shot work)

Thanks for watching. I'll try and put some more mechanics and drills if people find this helps.

  • This is cool, but maybe subtitles could make it alittle better cause sometimes it's hard to hear you guys. I really want to get into this. I do MMA and Karate, I always wondered why no one ever did European martial arts. Then I found this and was like =O Turns out my own Dad was in this when he was younger lol He gave me his old round shield and axe he made. I can see now that this is just as much as technical and skill based as any other martial art I've done =) Nice video!

  • @ChamorruWarrior Thanks very much for watching. I'll add in some subtitles for you, that is a great suggestion.

  • Seems like a very simple, yet effective technique. Thanks for posting!

  • @malave31 Thanks! Maybe I'll throw more videos like this on my YouTube, it seems to be popular.

  • Great move! I like it. It's like the offside version of the shoulder-drop rising snap I use. Thanks for sharing bro
