I'm new to pipe smoking and I've watched your entire series and my were they all very very helpful. Thank you Eric for taking the time to make these videos.

That too was more helpful knowledge. I made the mistake with my first two smokes by "using the elbow grease" and packing it much to tight. Its really nice to have this "how to" on pipe smoking.

What kind of pipe did you use in this video?

The process of lighting your pipe properly? as opposed to what? the process of trying to light your pipe with a banana? come on, you gotta be kidding me!

hey i went to the website and it doesnt seem to be working?

I wish I saw this and the series when I started. I spent more money on a pipe than I was really comfortable with but I'm ok with it now, however, I think I scorched the top of the pipe because I "huffed on it like a freight train" (HaHa that is awesome funny). BTW my first pipe was a Peterson at near $75 because I had to start with quality to "know" if I enjoy the hobby. I learned a lesson in my young age.

How does the charring light not stay lit but then the second light does?

im new to smoking and was wondering how hot of a pipe is to hot on the bowl and how long does a pipe last. It seems like i was outside for a hour. also how often should i take a draw from a pipe?
Hey Eric! Great video. As a beginning pipe smoker, I've learned a lot! I use a Colibri butane lighter. When doing the charring light and regular light should I not do it as long? As you know, the butane is a hot blue flame :)
Thanks!

Are you using a jet lighter? If so, definitely keep the flame near the pipe no more than a second or so at a time.
As for a regular butane lighter like I'm using in the video (a Corona Old Boy) I've had no problems using that type of flame as demonstrated in the video.

Without a doubt, the proper way to light a pipe!
Unfortunately, many novice pipe smokers fail to realize this important "rule of thumb."
In addition, there are several "self-appointed experts" on You Tube who need to implement this important lesson into their own pipe smoking excursions.

Thank you Kind Sir! I have an impatient moment here in there where I would do well to take my own advice as well.
I appreciate the comment. Did you find the Sonny Rollins album?
