You are probably still thinking of the afterlife as a reward for good works here. This not what makes an afterlife necessary philosophically. If their is no afterlife, everything we value in this life becomes meaningless. Death nullifies all human action good or bad. Death nullifies everything good in us & all those we love. We life in a cold indifferent mechanical universe & our life is an absurd accident. An afterilfe is really necessary to make life meaningfull.

Try reading Hewbrews of the new testement it may help you understand what Jesus did for us, it will help you understand everything as oppose to the BOM. My wife and I have been out to the church for about a year now.

My wife also says the afterlife has no meaning to her anymore (we left the Mormon cult three months ago).
