I think the writers tried hard to endear Lily to the viewers,, but it didn't work because Sonny and Brenda were such a force of nature - even apart. Lily was a nice girl but Sonny could never have the angst and heat like he did with Brenda...Lily just wasn't wired like that. If Lily had not gone click-boom, I think Sonny would have eventually jumped off the pier - out of sheer boredom.

I think Lily and Sonny weren't great as a couple but they were great as friends. Sometimes they had such funny scenes. I think what made them great together was that they cared about each other like they were Best Friends.
