This clip was recorded in October 2008 at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana campus. This campus was the focal point of the successful campaign to end the use of the fictional character "Chief Illiniwek" as the University sports mascot.

Here John addresses a Native Studies class that came into being as a result of changes in consciousness at the school...changes in consciousness that took place during and as a result of the campaign to end the 'Chief'.

There is a lot of very wise words here.. its worth watching a few times to understand just what he's saying.

It runs very deep into what has gone wrong... and have no doubt... "we" took a wrong turn somewhere back there in history. May our children's children forgive us.
