Memories of growing up in the Akron Ohio neighborhood called Ellet. In my childhood it included elements of urban and rural. With farms and industries, a lake and streams it seemed like a wooded paradise which we used for the backdrop of our sport and play. Little did we realize it was of importance to the nation as the home of Zeppelins, blimps, Corsair fighter planes and tires for the world. It shared in giving Akron it's twin titles of the era. The Rubber Capital of the World and the Trucking Capital of the World. It also was home of the Akron,Canton and Youngstown Railroad which shifted freight to and from the many railroads that served Akron industry. And the site of the world famous Soap Box Derby. • It looks like you either lived in the same house I did growing up, across from the air docks on Hilbish, or whatever may have been there before my time. Coincidentally I too refer to the airport and Stricklands as mine. Well made.

  • @dolenore I lived on Penthley Ave.

  • Thank you for the sentiment !
