Thanks a lot solidsnake4119! Why? Let me summarize... I bought an Inspiron 1520 on Sunday. However, there was a noise coming from the notebook, especially in quite environments. Anyway, today, I gave back my 1520 because of the same disturbing high frequency noise that was coming from the left part of the keyboard. At first, electronic store manager did not accept that the notebook is disordered; however, I used your video as an evidence and when he watched this, he was totally shocked! :)

The high pictched beeping/whine is not a fan. Lower noise you can hear is. Its intel core 2 duo whine and affects many intel based laptops. Its caused by processor changing power states causing some resonance in capacitors that is in audible hearing range (pizoelectric effect). RM clock prevents processor from going into power management states so keeps it quiet, although the lack of power management means battery life takes a hit. If using battery set to max power saving. Will run quiet.

That is a problem with the inverter... Usually happens when you're laptop overheats and burns it. I would replace it. It's moderate on the difficulty scale, but is cheap and will fix your problem

I have the same laptop but mine is silent and running vista ultimate

go to system properties - device manager then go to the bluetooth radios , expand to dell truemobile 355 bluetooth , double click , go to power management , uncheck the option says " allow the computer to turn off this device . this should fix it , a little extra battery consumption but it worth it

I've got the same computer and it makes the same noise when idle. I was told it was a ram problem and that there was nothing I could do about it, though if you have a solution I'd be very happy to hear it.

I got the same model and it also does that sound time after time...

Nooo, lol!

throw it down, it will be fixed. lol
my fujitsu has the same damn high-pitched whine/buzz/squeal/whatever. Core 2 Duo processor. If I leave it on overnight, when I get up it's doing it. If I'm using the computer, it doesn't do it. If I turn the computer off then on, it'll go away then come back.

It's a problem with the CPU, I recently got a Macbook and it had the same noise until I used a program to fix it.
