I've been trying to figure out this film for some time now. Can anyone tell me who Freder and Maria represent? I know Freder is the heart/mediator between the head his father and the hands the workers/masses. So, does he represent a type of "christ" figure? And if so, then who is Maria?

This is ,by far, the film's best scene. I have to say though, Mendelssohn's 4th symphony suites the climax of this movie perfectly. There are very few films which are perfect in every way, this is one of them.
