vuillaume was also a crook who stole eticets out of stradivarius, but alsu just cut them out of a book to glue them in a new violin (made from old wood in his fathers back yard)but not after he stole the top blade of a strad which was in his hands to repair to put this on his own work.
The strad was given back then to its owner (inclusive a new top blade )with the words: I cleaned it so it looks newer. real?
This one is sertenly old when I look at the work but I do not think its a real strad.
Don't take my word for this, but I thought I saw a picture of a Stradivarius violin once and the label inside was hand written, and looked like a bunch of scribbles.
what became of this violin? did you bid on it or already own it? i have studied violins for years - as some have suggested violin could be old and possibly made by other family members but not by Antonio Stradivari himself. top is too flat around sound holes.
Many violins are modeled after the Stradivarius. Many makers during his time copied his models...which leads to a great number of people who own some old violin thinking they are Strads. Just because you found an old violin in your Grandmother's closet doesn't mean it's a Stradivarius -_-
shoe polish does wonders. the scoll is to perfect, the back is not at Cremona.

Almost all violins (including the one I own and play) have a label on the inside of the violin that says "Copy of Stradivarius".
