The purity and range in his voice is astounding, but I do think monroe comes close.

Idk if it's about Maynard having faith. He's pretty anti-christian, or at leas the was during the time this song was produced. It's more about how much faith his mother had and yet god repaid her by leaving her half paralyzed from a stroke. The two songs from the 10,000 days album by Tool sum that up pretty well I think.

it's not even a song that Christians should be offended by. I am a Christian. He is talking about losing his faith cause his mother passed away and had a lot of faith. It's a really passionate song actually.
