Fire Vortex by Nate Smith

The Crucible is a community development organization in Oakland, California which inspires creativity, material re-use, team-building, and problem-solving, all while teaching occupational skills. This small group of artisans and activists transforms their community through classes and workshops in welding, blacksmithing, foundry & mold-making, woodworking, machine shop, motorcycle & bike repair, stonework, neon & light, kinetics, jewelry & enamel, fire performance, and clay animation.

Founded in 1999, the Crucible’s unique programs serve more than 5,000 young people and adults every year. A premiere art center, it has captured the attention, imagination, and engagement of the general public, the Burning Man organization, and corporate sponsors through its’ spirited execution and delivery of dance, opera, ballet, & art events as well as community-oriented services.

The Crucible's Fire Arts Festival is their primary annual fund-raising event.
