"Drift Away" is a classic written by Mentor Williams and covered by many bands and vocalists across the world. This one is by John Kay, included in the double album "Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes" and "Sportin' Life" (1972).

  • How is John Kay and Steppenwolf NOT in the American Music Hall of Fame and Neil fricking Diamond is!!! WTF!

  • John Kay as a unique artist was and still is one of the most under-rated musicians ever.

Why Steppenwolf and John himself never got inducted into the RRHoF is a mystery and a disgrace.

YOU can get on Facebook and go to the "John Kay & Steppenwolf Should Be In The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" page and possible get this egregious error corrected.

  • Steppenwolf defines Rock and Roll for many of us. I grew up with "Monster" and "7" two of the best rock albums ever created.

  • @mchead13 EXACTLY!

  • Damn!!! This makes like 7 originals that I did not know about now thanks to youtube, One that is worth checking into the orginal The Gambler and the orginal country hit Rose Garden.

  • STEPPENWOLF is not in the Rock Hall of Fame? What the $%#? They were rock in the mid 60's. They were the shit. The best. The very best.........magic carpet, born to be, tenderness, snowblind, all are classic songs.

  • "My Sportin Life" is a good album, used to own it if I recollect. Listen to "Easy Evil" for some good listening as well. thanks for posting.

  • nothing like a good steppenwolf before going to bed, or any other time in the day

  • Thank you for sharing.. I always thought John Kay was one cool cat, I remember hearing him when I was a little kid with Steppenwolf. Love hearing him sing this song. The Wolf!!

  • First time i hear this by John......Great...

  • For all of your info... John Kay wanted to make this song 1 year before Dobi Gray recorded it and made it famous with his recording. The producer didn't want it done.
