A paramedic on the beach would cost more, what about the wages in the military and they are payed to kill rather than save lives??
LIFEGUARD is about guarding lives and saving lives how do you justify paying them nothing less than a Paramedic...?

Whether this is totally true or not, California is the most f**ked up state in the USA. Good weather? Yes. But California is fiscally in the dumper. Keep blowing big money and keep taking care of all of your ILLEGAL aliens and you will keep falling further into financial trouble.

I was wondering where your numbers came from? I checked the Newport Beach city proposed budget for 2011-2012 and the amount paid to the lifeguards are far less than your numbers.
