I think most modern cars are tuned for gas mileage above all else. Excluding sports cars/super cars of course. Even my 2001 Celica GT shifts at 6,100 RPM in first gear at WOT when in drive. Peak horsepower occurs at 6,400 RPM, and redline is at 6,800 RPM. If I shift it manually I can go to redline in first and get faster 0-60 times.

@nickbattaglio You're comparing different transmissions. As I said before 9 months ago, it's about two identical transmissions. Two accelerations tests. One with the computer deciding when to shift, and the second test the person deciding when to shift using the next button.
Two identical transmissions - what part of this don't you understand?

@gadgetguy4000 Thats on the outlanders with a CVT transmission, and is completely normal. ALL CVT's stay at a constant RPM based on torque because they dont use gears, rather they use a continuously variating transmission whos pully size smoothly changes to seemlessly change gear ratios. But I perfer standart transmissions when driving a sporty car.

@kev71055 Not all of them. Depends on which one you get. The 2011 GT that we have comes with fixed gear ratios and manual. Not CVT.

There are many, MANY CUVs that are faster than this.

esse carro é tudo de bommmmm...

@cameronmci No it doesn't I have a 2008 Outlander VRX and when left in drive 0-100kim/h is 7.5sec but when I pop it into semi automatic the time is reduced to 7 sec
-
Haha. That's because the new outlanders have a continuously variable transmission.

If no one knows then new outlanders do not shift! The keep revving until u let off the gas z
-
that was terrible

only rav4 V6 is faster than this monster!

does d 2004 mitsubishi outlander ls awd have 4 gears or 5?
@a1mint
Manufacturers program ECU's for moderate performance in order to keep the car's mechanics in shape longer. Even when they know the best performance parameters.
