Indian foreign affairs analyst Raja Mohan argues that many leaders among India's foreign policy establishment would prefer John McCain over Barack Obama as the next U.S. President.

-----

During the Asia Society's 36th Annual Williamsburg Conference in April in Bali, Indonesia, we asked policy leaders from across Asia which US presidential candidate is most favorably viewed in their part of the world.

A large number of respondents said Barack Obama was the most popular, and the Indonesian respondents in particular talked about the significance of Senator Obama's early childhood in the country. Meanwhile, the city named "Obama" in Japan is enjoying increasing popularity! - Asia Society

Dr C Raja Mohan is an analyst of Indian foreign policy and international security affairs and an advocate of India's strategical alignment with America. He has served on India's National Security Advisory Board during 1998-2000. He is currently a professor at the Nanyang Technical University in Singapore.

  • Keep Dreaming.. All leaders are same they promise before election and forget after winning it....Be it India or US.... Politicians will remain politicians

  • American firms send jobs to India because their workers work for a fraction of the cost in US dollars. There's absolutely no other reason.

  • twilightgirlusa, You are so on the money

  • you dont represent 95% indians. Get ur facts right. Republicans are pro indians obama is pro muslims

  • so stop crying over jobs being sent to india, rather start thinking why r they being sent to india, what r u not doing that indians are doing....if you don't realise that then no matter how much ever u cry or shout, jobs are going to go to india and indians will be hired always for better positions becouse they want to work, and that's the greatest enjoyement for them....

  • u r so afraid of competition, it took 60 years for us to recover from what your ancestors had done to india, but we came out of it, worked hard to prove we r better then anybody else, and made people to come to us, we get jobs becouse we deserve, bçoz we work hard, bçoz we peoved we r better...if u think u r better then proe it like we did, by working hard and making american companies to keep jobs in usa and not send them india, prove that u an do it better then us....

  • what he said is true...indo-us relation really improved during bush administration, i don't know about obama.... bçoz he sounds as if, he knows what u want to hear, and speaks according to what you want to hear, ultimate speaker, but it will take time to know, what he really is....he has to do good, as he is first african american president, so he has to prove, he is good, and african americans can do as good as anybody else...

  • McCain rules!

  • The only reason India would want McCain is because he would outsource the jobs and their friggin country would develop, and Obama is gonna bing everything back to our land

  • HA! i'm indian, my dad is indian, my mom is indian, my entire FAMILY is indian, all my friends that r indian....all of us, we want Barak Obama. Dont make up stupid things like that. Just because YOU want(ed) McCain, doesnt mean all of india wants him. India isnt just one body, it has different people with differents views, you cant say the entire population will....just saying u kno? btw, who is this guy???
