Kiteboarding Assateague Island (Ocean City, Maryland)

Kite Beach is "bayside" on Assateague Island just inside the Federal park entrance (fee area -2009 rates- $15 for 7 day pass & $30 for annual pass). Same place where they rent canoes and kayaks. There is plenty of parking, bathrooms, picnic benches & BBQ grills. It's 2' to 4' shallow for a very long distance east of the channel. Great spot for beginners and all levels. Local kiters Jim & Annemarie Dickerson manage the Francis Scott Key Family Resort (about 8 miles away). www.fskfamily.com

I' m new to the Area - is this area safe and good for West winds?

It's good with wind from any direction except east. It's very shallow & safe but there are certain areas you should be aware of (channels & reefs). Hope to be see you out there Fri afternoon or Sat AM. ~ Jim
