I believe that sound problem is a sound ROM corruption. It may just be fixed with swapping out the sound ROM chip with a new programmed one. I had the same prob, and fixed that way. Cost me $20 for someone to write the chips. I had the main program one done too just to have it all new.

I think Williams used to borrow ideas from popular movies of the time and make pinballs that loosely implement key themes from those pop culture trends.
Firepower seems to have some Star Wars aspects, themewise. If you look at the back glass of Firepower, you can see what looks like a Death Star and the ships firing on it.

Firepower was an incredible machine for its time. As a kid, it used to send shivers up my back hearing the sound effects. Long live Steve Ritchie, designer of Firepower, and the "Master of Flow"
Nowadays I name my Unix computers after my favorite videogames and pinballs from the 80's.
