RV's are nice planes but are heavy on the controls and have such a slow roll rate compared to F1 planes. It's like comparing apples to oranges

You ruined the whole video with that dumbass music.

Propwash is minor compared to wake turbulence when in the turns. And yes I have been on the course....
-
Prop wash is annoying and choppy usually-wingtip vortices can really roll you hard and impart severe structural forces on the airframe- i had the modified Cassutt N-38z in the 70's. Racer wing and full blown bubble canopy, stretch fuselage. Outrageous looks like a carbon coby.

We just played follow the leader first time on the course........got behind Richs Brew....flew about 100 feet agl, around 120mph.........and over 3 or 4 laps kept bringing in more power....then he peeled up and off, and we went at it for about 20 laps.....that first time on the course is very memorable......like a first solo kinda.

not to be disagreeable, but I do disagree...lol. Seriously though, I flew through both F1s and that RV8s prop wash, and I really think it is bigger, and stronger. the F1s and the Bipes are about the same though....Bipes maybe a tiny bit stronger than F1 but definately less that the RV8....I learned my lesson though...now when the aircraft in front of my goes high on a turn...it pisses me of and forces me high too....lol.

Actually the engines are closer to stock than you might think, as this is a requirement of the class. Only modifications allowed are balancing and forged pistons, both to improve the reliability of the engine. Extra horsepower comes from turning at a much higher rpm (in excess of 4000 for typical gold competitors) and more efficient intake/exhaust that a stock application.
That RV8 should not be allowed on the course.......I flew into its Prop wash while coming around pylon 4 banked at about 60 degrees, and I was violently rolled 60 degrees outside...even with almost full inside stick deflection I could not overcome it. The size of its Prop wash is considerably bigger than the biplanes or other F1s on the course. I avoid that thing like the plague now....LOL.

RV8 wake is about the same as a faster F1 at speed, due to high wing loading of the F1, I've flown in and behind both. Better to avoid in the turns if possible, but full stick deflections are not uncommon when you do. RV8 is a great asset to F1 as it allows course orientation to new pilots, I can't think of an aircraft that would be better for this purpose.

Have you been on the course yourself?
BTW....I just reread your post....are you talking wingtip vortices? or Prop Wash? Im not sure what wing loading has to do with prop wash.....it is the prop wash that
throws you around, not the wing vortices.
the F1s have 0200s with smaller props....the RV8 I think has an 0360 much bigger prop diameter...hence much bigger prop wash area.

Yes, on the course many times, both at PRS 2007 & 2008 and during race week 2007 & 2008 in F1 race 98 & 99. I think you are hitting wake turbulance which has a much stronger rolling moment, and lasts longer, than "prop wash".
