This was right before we left our old apt...the miracle fruit was left with a friend for 3 weeks, where sadly it was devoured by squirrels. Damn those squirrels.

The inca berry is in MN doing very well...I hope to get back there in a few weeks to eat some!

  • Could you tell me what kind of soil did you use for your miracle fruit tree?

    Pine soil? and compost?

    Thanks!

  • lots of shredded bark and compost. Although Im wondering if its acidic enough because I havent seen flowers for quite some time. Squirrels at the one in the video, so I had to buy a new one that hasnt flowered yet, but is about the same size...

  • Cool. Can you grow an Incan berry into a plant from a dried seed just as I did with my Goji berry's? I have some nice bushes now and they grow great in SW Florida.

I'd love to buy some dry incan berries and start some plants to share at the raw potlucks down here.

    Neat site, I subscribed.

  • I tried and tried but no luck. The lady at the greenmarket thought that maybe they were irradiated, but I dont know.

If you can find some fresh one (look for "ground cherries) you should easily be able to sprout some more. Especially down there.

  • I forgot to add, they are called Uvillas in Ecuador (ooh-vee jhuz).

  • like..."little grapes"? Too funny! Makes sense though...I could really go for some now.

  • GROWING GOLD....

  • in Ecuador, those incan berries plants are common bushes in people's yards. Crazy. My husband is Ecuadorian, and his mom has a tree in her yard. When you taste the berries fresh from that beautiful paper lantern that surrounds it, it is an amazing experience.

  • Right. Thank you indeed. :)

  • Oh for sure...that Miracle fruit is an inside plant for anyone living outside of the tropics. I think once it dips down to 40F or 5C the miracle fruit is very unhappy.

Its a perfect houseplant though...Im looking at mine right now :)

Inca berry...its an annual as far as I know, but maybe it can be stretched out with better weather. I planted it in the greenhouse in MN, so we'll see how she fares.

    Thanks always,

    Anthony
