  • I'm have been a guitar playing forever so my left hand (the one used on the fret board) is majorly caluses (excuse my spelling.) But my right hand (holds pick) was soft...I had my darbuka for two days and my fingers were cut and bleeding...now I have it for a couple of months and my right hand has caluses as well ha ha

  • I was jesting a bit Mr JDFrong. They frequently swelled when I was learning djembe which is why I switched to darbuka. Thankfully all's well since- even though I still have a long, long way to go in my mastering of it! Thanks for your tips. I do appreciate it. If you can suggest any good teaching videos that would be great.

If your fingers are purple and blue, I suggest working on stroke placement. They should get tired from work, but if you are tearing them up that bad, you won't be able to play for extended periods and your progress will suffer.

  • I've just suddenly realised how far I have to go with my Darbuka lessons. And that my purple and blue fingers may continue for a bit yet.
