Alabama, Florida Troopers Check Point at State Line, US 231 South.

Alabama and Florida Troopers made a huge showing at the Alabama/Florida state line on US 231 South tonight.

The Florida Troopers joined the Alabama Troopers to participate in Alabama's "Take back our highways" campaign.

There was a very large presence of troopers from both states along with other near by law enforcement agencies to include both the Jackson County and Houston County Sheriff's Offices. The Florida Department of Transportation was also there to assist in the inspections of commercial vehicles.

There were several citations issued for equipment violations, no or improper driver licenses, tag violations. There were also several arrests for impaired driving.

Traffic moved smoothly along the north bound lanes check points. Most vehicles quickly proceeded on their journeys. Those in line for citations were moved into a side lane and another area was set up for the impaired drivers. Wreckers were on scene as well.

Troopers hope the motoring public gets a strong message that they are serious about safety and have a zero tolerance for impaired driving.
