@aquarianbabe: PART FIVE: the Gift of Tongues, & the Gift of Interpretation of Tongues, are two distinct Gifts of the Holy Spirit that operate at his discretion & by his unction, & they exist for the edification of both the individual believer & the greater body, called the church, & as a sign to unbelievers.
@aquarianbabe PART FOUR: to speak through us. Paul said we speak with tongues of men & tongues of angels…He also said he that speaks in unknown tongues, speaks not to men, but to God. So if every tongue spoken is to God, then why did the believers speak to men in Acts 2? The answer is simple. When you speak in tongues, sometimes it is to God (used in private, personal prayer & worship), & sometimes it is to men (used in a public setting). We believe the Bible teaches that...((cont))
@aquarianbabe PART THREE: tongues, because the tongue that the Holy Spirit chose to speak through them was whatever particular language those folks spoke in their homelands. Praise God for that, & we believe that Gift still happens today. We have even seen videos online that show beautiful demonstrations of that. They may even be listed in our favorites section. At the same time, it does not disqualify that there is also a tongue unknown to men that the Spirit of God may choose...((cont))
@aquarianbabe PART TWO: tongue given in a church setting. That second tongue–public–is one of the nine Gifts of the Holy Spirit, & is intended to be accompanied, according to Scripture, by the Interpretation of Tongues, another of the nine Gifts of the Spirit. When public tongues are followed by a public interpretation, understanding is achieved & the whole body is edified. Yes, in Acts 2, when Jewish believers spoke in tongues at Pentecost, visiting ethnicities heard their native...((cont))
@aquarianbabe PART ONE: We don't wish to debate you, just to share the Gospel with you in brotherly love. We believe & teach that the Bible, when rightly divided, describes a difference between a private devotional tongue that is given for the prayer, worship, & edification of the personal believer, from the type of message in tongues that is given before people in a public setting. We believe Paul addressed both the subject of a personal private prayer life in tongues, & a public...((cont))
@FamilyHarvestChurch I like a good Biblical debate. I was always taught by my pastor that languages unknown means unknown to them, not unknown to the entire world. That language in the tape is an unknown message. And it says in I Cor 13 that if you don't have an intepretor and no one knows what you're saying you should be quiet. There is no heavenly language. Praying for interpretation is a whole different thing. Again it says how HEAR we every man in our own tongue in Acts 2.
@intruthwithlove777 Amen. Thank you for that clear and biblical post. The church gets edified when prophecy is given. And the Gift of Tongues followed by a Gift of Interpretation of Tongues are a biblical equivalent to the Gift of Prophesying. We should have prophesying, OR tongues followed by interpretation. But never tongues with no interpretation. That edifies no one but the person who speaks it.
@aquarianbabe - Part 4: (Ac 19:2). Then in verse 6, Paul laid hands on them and "the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." Really!? The same thing happened as happened in Acts 2? Yes. These believers also received the Holy Ghost, and they, too, spoke with tongues. Not in their own language, heard in another language by someone else. They spoke in unknown tongues. I'm sorry, but your claims just aren't supported by Scripture. But thanks for your interraction.
@aquarianbabe - Part 3: the Gospel & were saved. The Bible is clear, "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:4). They spake in other tongues. Not spoke in English that was heard in another language.
Also when other New Tew Testament believers were asked by Paul if they had received the Holy Ghost since they became believers, they said, "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.((cont))
@aquarianbabe - Part 2: only spoken in the language of their day as well. It nullifies the decision of God to give the Holy Spirit, & it nullifies the decision God made to bring these two new spiritual giftings into the church at that time. To disregard this is to disregard God & his will.
Also, you are incorrect in saying, "You could be speaking English, but they'll hear it in whatever language they speak. That's how the 3000 got saved at Pentecost." No, that's not how they heard...((cont))
