Disney says The Lion King's similarities to a 1950s Japanese anime series called Kimba are total coincidence. You make the call.

  • I tried to tell them, but no one would listen to me 'cause I was only seven when it was in theatres. Now I rub against old ladies on the bus.

  • @b7jay357 welcome to the internet... or perhaps its just in human nature to want to be right all the time. The internet just seems to have opened the door to us all being miserable imbeciles together.

  • I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT! I love Kimba so much! It was the first show that I ever watched! (Im only 12 on my sisters account.) I KNEW LION KING IS A RIP OFF!

  • @canuck21 we'll see LOL there will be a point that i will come back here and say "not anymore" disney was my favorite too, until i learned they're corrupted and practically ripping off broadway (i never knew broadway back then), makes me rather watch wicked. i also read a biography from one of their drafters and head animator of dumbo, and saying they kill creative illustrators and made them work like slaves. twas a glum factory behind children's happiness

  • @TigerEyeNoxera No, stealing or not, Disney did a better job. Lol. They should just say its tribute and get everyone off their backs.

  • @idinakristinwicked You realize you're arguing against your own position right? If they were planning that before the Lion King and it fell through then it's all the more obvious they simply went ahead and did it without legal permission.

  • They ought to just own up that it was not an 'original story'. The most offensive thing to me is that when challenged they claimed they never heard of Tezuka Osamu, which is comparable to a Japanese animation company claiming they never heard of Disney. Hell, Matthew Broderick is on record saying he thought it was an authorized adaptation.

  • What exactly does "Blaming disney" entail? It's very arbitrary and unproductive. Disney, like any company, has its flaws and it's a large corporation. Execs have different priorities from animators.

There are sources which acknowledge that there was Kimba inspiration (I believe it was a quote from Roy E. Disney) and some Disney animators who acknowledge the inspiration.

So yes, I agree that Disney should give its credit.

  • People if Disney was stealing stuff from kimba to make the lion king than why were they at one point going to try to make a kimba movie with the animators. The plan fell through but they were planning it before the lion king.

  • dont you people have a private life...? every click you take there's a stupid discussion about who's right... grow up
