Micheal Choy - HumanKind
Sex trafficking is a global business. Sex tourism is fueled by comparatively wealthy Western clients buying sex on foreign shores. Trade routes have been established in a dizzying exchange between Eastern and Western Europe, East and South East Asia, the Middle East, and the North and South Americas. It is a global business, and therefore a local problem. Where do the victims come? Who buys the sex? Under the table, San Diego is a hub, used as an entry point for traffickers to enter and then on to major cities along the West Coast. While busts are few and far between, they are indicative of an extensive network that runs through our city. And yet, perhaps the problem lies closer to home. After all, without clientele, there would be no business.
"HumanKind" is a confrontation exposed by the artist between sex trafficking and the human condition. Are you aware of what is happening in your own backyard?
