Cathy Marie Buchanan interviews Edith Hill Powell (born 1915), the only surviving child of William "Red" Hill. As Niagara's most famous riverman, Red Hill (1888-1942) recovered 177 bodies from the river, rescued 29 people, assisted a handful of daredevils and shot the Whirlpool Rapids in a barrel himself. He was the inspiration behind Buchanan's debut novel, The Day the Falls Stood Still.
