This Asian-made mustache cup pre-dates the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891. It is paper-thin transparent porcelain and likely to be about 120 years old. Some of the noblemen have long Chinese mustaches but this could be a Japanese cup and saucer set. Perry invaded Japan in 1853, and G&S wrote 'The Mikado' in 1885, so this could be part of the 'Japan Fever' that overtook Britain during that time. It is an excellent example of a faded period of elegance we will never see again.
