Complete the Forest Temple, go back to the Temple of Time, return to the past, find Malon in Lon Lon Ranch and learn the song from her, then return to the future and follow this video.

No, but it is required to get the Biggoron Sword later, which is also optional.

For the longest time I thought to get the horse, you had to go to Kakariko Village, talk to Malon's Dad after waking him up, remind Malon who you are at night at the ranch, then start the horse racing... thank you sir.

Aww, don't say that!

I've noticed for me...that if you instantly use a carrot right at the beginning you and Ingo will be locked together for like the first few corners and then you can just keep using carrots to easily get ahead of him after that. Just make sure you keep 1-2 carrots so it doesnt take forever to get more.

ok,so the first race took me forever to beat the second one...... i beat on my first try i got so suprised lol
