And how exactly are Medicare and Social Security preventing you from speaking out? How are they creating dictators? The programs aren't limiting people's freedom and they aren't abridging people's freedom of speech. The Patriot Act is doing that. The Citizens United decision makes it so that some entities and people get to virtually run the country and decide policy. Now that's getting close to dictatorship.

You can read Madison, Jefferson, Hamilton and Washington. They all held somewhat differing views and the first three all had heavy input in the Constitution. There is no true singular "father of the Constitution". Madison is mostly called that because he physically wrote it along with being one of the major four (Franklin being the fourth) who came up with many of the ideas in the Constitution. There are copious SCOTUS cases outlining their debates.

@bkmalone86 you're right. and the general welfare clause means that government should spend money only on the things that are outlined in article 1, rather than giving money to special interest. The consitution is a limit on government, it doesn't give it unlimited power. that's the whole point of having states rights

The only things the federal government is supposed to do is the things the states absolutely can not do themselves. The states can't all come together and defend themselves against other armies, how do you go about forming a national bank on the state level? Before the 1930's the supreme court routinely struck down federal power until FDR threatened the court.

We have the right to be governed by our individual states. Kansas should not have to triple it's taxes to pay for California illegals.

"Oh we read the rest of the constitution... here's the four words of it we are going to take out of context to state our case against an entire amendment." Tell me, what's the point of the tenth amendment if the founding fathers intended on having the fed control everything??? Are you trying to say we went from 100% fed power, to 100% state power in the 1900's when we made a 180 and went to federal power

Many Libs look at the constitution and pick and choose what they want to argue about. The 2nd ammendment they hate it but when it comes to the first ammendment they are all over it. You can not pick and choose your ideals!

National Health Care will never work in this country! Look at Britian they have free socialized medicine. So does Canada, then why if it is so good they come over to be treated in the US?
