Asaf Avidan is an Israeli folk/rock musician known for his breakthrough debut album, "The Reckoning", which was created with a group of backup musicians under the name "Asaf Avidan and the Mojos". The album received major critical reviews, with one prominent music blog referring to it as "the most significant rock album in Israeli history", and earned Avidan a nomination for Best Israeli Artist at the upcoming MTV Europe Awards.

Avidan has risen to prominence in large part due to his voice, which has been fairly described in multiple media sources as "a blend of Robert Plant and Janis Joplin". Listeners who haven't seen Avidan's photo often have a hard time believing that it is indeed a man producing the oddly feminine crooning Avidan's songs are famous for.

The first single off Avidan's debut album is "Weak", with a video produced by one of Avidan's friends as a project for film school.

אתה לא אוהב את המוזיקה, לגיטימי (ומוזר בעיני) אבל איך זה קשור ללהיות יהודי גאה?

אני מת על אבידן, מת עליו, ואני מתנחל כהניסט שאם היית יודע איפה אני גר היית נופל מהכיסא. נכון שהוא שמאלני וזה קצת מפריע לי כשאני משלם על הדיסקים וההופעות שלו והלוואי שלא הייתי יודע שהוא שמאלני אבל המוזיקה שלו כל כך טובה שאני בולע את זה וממשיך איכשהו.

אז מסתבר שאפשר גם להיות יהודי גאה שנלחם על אדמת אבותיו וגם לשמוע מוזיקה משובחת בשפת הגויים!

אתה פשוט לא מבין. מוזיקה ישראלית היא ישראלית כל עוד היוצר הוא ישראלי - בין אם היא בערבית, רוסית, אנגלית, או כל שפה אחרת - אם זה רוק, פופ, בלוז רגאיי או כל סוג אחר. למוזיקה אין מדינה.
