This is the first ever performance of Dave King's newest group, Golden Valley Is Now! Featuring Reid Anderson on bass and Craig Taborn on keys. This concert was part of a two day festival held at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis to honor Dave King for his diversity of styles, brilliant musicianship, and his always entertaining showmanship.
Called "KING FOR 2 DAYS" the festival featured most of King's current projects including Buffalo Collision, Happy Apple, The Bad Plus, Bad Apple, Golden Valley Is Now, Dave Kind Trucking Co. and The Gang Font.
I hope you enjoy.

  • It sounds like the groove is divided like its 7/8 then 4/8 then it switches to the quarter note triplet pulse for 5 beats.

  • Im 100% loving the grove Dave gets in at 3:28!

  • 14 / 8 , the last 3 beats are equally divided into 5

  • There is no measure of 8/8. It's 7/8 throughout. The triplets make it a bit harder to count.

  • 3 measures of 7/8 (223) then a measure of 8/8. its weird cause the 8/8 is the measure that sounds odd-meter.

  • @turtleboy84 It's too hard. I can't even count it without messing up. How he can play it is beyond me. It's either 15/8 or 17/8, but I lean toward 17/8 -- think there is an extra beat in there. Where's Bill Bruford when you need him? :)

  • @TachyonDrums

    I suck at counting, 15/8 right? :P

  • Wow... laptops and electronics and Reid on a bass guitar. They are killing it. When I heard Dave describe this, I knew I'd like this project but I'm only now finally getting to hear it. Thanks very very much for posting.
