Please read first!!
First of all I want to say that this is a great movie and if you haven't seen it yet you should really consider watching it! And if you want to watch the movie, don't watch this vid because you wouldn't want to spoil the end!!!
And now on to the vid itself -- I made it for the BYT2us contest but I don't know if they'll accept it cause I am two days late and I haven't heard anything from the mods (so wish me luck ;)) ... we were supposed to make a vid about beauty in sadness and I am telling you this was the hardest challenge ever for me .. I just couldn't decide what to do -- most of my ideas didn't work out and so I thought about the saddest movie I had ever seen and this one came to my mind ... I read the book first and I don't think I've ever cried more while reading a book than at the end of this one -- I put the quote of the book that I remembered most at the end of the vid ("Despite the chaos that followed, Bruno found that he was still holding Shmuel's hand in his own and nothing in the world would have persuaded him to let go. ") ...
And while I don't think there is ANYTHING beautiful about the things that happened during the nazi era (I hope that nobody feels offended by the vid!) I really do think that the friendship of those two boys is beauty in its definition ... they meet under these difficult circumstances and both of them take enormous risks to become friends ... so yeah the vid is about the beauty of their friendship in the sadness and cruelty of the nazi era ...
About the movie/book:
Bruno lives a wealthy lifestyle in prewar Germany along with his mother, elder sister, and SS Commandant father. The family relocates to the countryside where his father is assigned to take command a prison camp. A few days later, Bruno befriends another boy, strangely dressed in striped pajamas, named Shmuel who lives behind an electrified fence. Bruno soon finds out that he is not permitted to befriend his new friend as he is a Jew, and that the neighboring yard is actually a prison camp for Jews awaiting extermination. Despite the danger they both put themselves in by seeking each other out they constantly meet at the fence and become friends. When Shmuel's father goes "missing" and Bruno's supposed to relocate with his mother and his sister, they decide to take their first and last mission together to find Shmuel's father ... while they are searching for him in the camp they come to a group that is supposed to be killed and they are killed along with them ...
I know the ending is really brutal and I really couldn't believe it when I first read the book but honestly in my opinion it's the most accurate ending for the book because most of the stories during that era didn't have a happy ending!
There has been a lot of criticism about the book and the movie -- especially because it portrays some persons unaware of the genocide -- but I think the book main purpose is to show the cruelty that happened and to recall the millions of innocent victims of the Holocaust ... because in my opinion the most important thing is that we'll never forget what happened during that time so that we can prevent it from happening again!
And even though that might sound stupid -- this vid if dedicated to all the people that died during that era and especially to the people that stood up to the nazis and tried to help those that were mistreated ... you shall never be forgotten!

The bonds of friendship is stronger than a fool who tries to break the friendship. My brother won't allow his 5th grade daughter to communicate with me. The result... I'm crying so much right now...
I've noticed loads of people vidding this movie recently, and I rarely watch them 'cause I know I will cry. But boy am I happy I watched this one. This goes straight to my favourites! It's so beautifully made and the editing is really lovely. Also, Inception soundtrack...

This movie absolutely breaks your heart....and so does this amazing vid. This is visually stunning, magnificently edited, conveys all the emotions of the characters and elicits such emotion from the viewer. Best of luck in the competition.
