@annersbananers I had a pretty good working relationship with the CP folks when I was a desk sergeant too, but I hate when SF is misunderstood. I suppose you have dealt with either really lazy or inexperienced Desk Sergeants. I always just ran my checklist and didn't care who CP had to notify and I already knew the initials because thats what happens when you notify the same people everyday. I just want you to know that it isn't always incompetence or laziness.

@annersbananers then send your initial report with the information you get and quit crying about it. You know what I would like to know? Why you have to call the Wing Commander and the Desk Sergeant also has to call the Wing Commander...effing retarded. I understand what it's like. This vid reminds me of being a desk sergeant trying to get information from airmen on scene. Plus, whoever you notifiy always asks a bunch of questions that they should know you don't have the answer to yet.

Not to mention, it is the WG/CC that certifies us. And by the way, if you can't take a joke, then don't comment. I have a shit ton of SFS friends because we work so closely with you guys, and they thought this video was hilarious, because most of the time, it's true.

@JK4AF1 You have to call us because we are responsible to passing the info on to all the higher ups, and for sending reports to higher headquarters. If we don't have the correct information, or all the information, then we have command centers (Who are also 1c3s) calling us because a 4 star general is asking them for more info. Not to mention, we are one of the few career fields that tests twice monthly, and must score a 90% or above on those tests or risk decertification.
Well if you didn't insist on being called before all the information is in you wouldn't have this problem. Do you think that the desk sergeant is on scene? They can only relay the shitty information that the dumbass airman sends them. Most of the time you can't even get good information from the other first responders, because they aren't focused on the damn notifications, their job is to handle the situation.

@Wilhelm1617 Right, I'll go ahead and tell the Wing Commander and all the group commanders that the reason that they weren't notified until 3 hours after the fact is because every single piece of information wasn't in. We notify the commanders and all of the support agencies as information comes in. I realize that it's not the desk sgt's fault a lot of the time (Though, sometimes, we haven't been notified for 3 hours because they forgot us on their checklist).

@Wilhelm1617 Also, please be aware that we have 15 minutes from notification to send out an initial voice report to HHQ (MAJCOM or HQAF). So, we are called about something, we aren't allowed to wait on all the information to send the reports (Our AFI specifically says not to wait on more information before sending an initial report).

@SuperWarking talk to the CP people at your current base before you make any decisions. You honestly have to be a certain kind of crazy to do well and enjoy the job. I mean, I've had a good run, but it is NOT for everybody. It could be compared to a NASCAR race: Hours of complete boredom, 10 minutes of pure adrenaline rush as something bad happens, then boredom again. Also, keep in mind that every command post does different jobs.

Such as, in AMC you do flight following, as well as EA and OPREP reporting. At Travis and McGuire, you could belong to the CRG. And some CP's are JUST EA. Also, there are CPs that do search and rescue, which is fun. And once you're a TSgt, you can apply for a job on the airborne command post.
