Fixing a Samsung DLP TV by reflowing the DNIe BGA chip as described in many forums. Note, I'm no expert at reflowing (this is my first try) so I'm sure this is not the "correct" way to do it. But so far the TV is working.

  • your full of it why would you hot air then bake it? at 1000 deg? you just replaced the board would have fried the chip

  • @toddwhat It says 100C, not 1000 deg. You bake it first to remove any moisture from the IC package so the chip does not turn into popcorn from the trapped moisture expanding when you reflow it.

  • i got mt tv to work with the same prob i just pushed down on the chip cleaned it nwith alcohol and it worked :)

  • could i use a air dryer

  • Baking the whole board ensures that it has evenly expanded, and is still flat while the BGA is re-flowed. If you only heat up the immediate area, the board can bubble up in that area, even making the situation worse as the solder may not be touching. It also gets the part close to the temperature needed, so less heat is requred from the heat gun to melt the solder.

  • true that most SMD has issue with lose solder joint, using hot air is usefull. But your video seems unreal.. why would you put everything together as if your are 100% sure it will work? I feel you replace it with new board?

  • Thanks sudukuai it's a well prduced vid, but a little too focused on the rebuild. I think more time and detail on the removal+repair info would be helpful. But your's is the only one with a descriptive (searchable) title that covers all the basics. Well done!

  • hi i have a similar samsung having the same problem is that all your doing is heating this part and not replacing it ? can i do this or take it in and have someone do this?

  • will this fix the white dots problem?
